Boston is the capital of the state of Massachusetts and is seen as America’s pioneer
city in many ways. Boston played a key role in America’s history and was always
the first city to adopt new technologies or trends.
Today Boston is a booming metropolis, a city with evident contrasts of old and new,
from areas with a colonial New England feel to the central modern skyscrapers and
expressways. These contrasts are what makes Boston such a great city to visit; from
museums, art galleries, and historical monuments to state-of-the-art shopping centres,
pubs and the Boston Red Sox, the number of things to do in Boston ensures you will
never be bored.
Boston is a compact city with most areas within walking distance and a good public
transport network. The Boston Duck Tours provide a great way to see the city from
both the Charles River and the city streets in a bus that converts into a boat.
Quincy Market is a good place to visit to get a feel of the old city with clusters
of boutique shops on cobblestone streets. Boston also has plenty of public gardens
and parks giving the city a open and relaxed ambience. In addition to all this,
Boston’s ethnic diversity has resulted in a fantastic array of restaurants offering
international cuisine.
Autumn or the ‘fall’ is considered a good time to visit Boston as the ‘gateway city
to New England’, when the state famously becomes drenched in shades of orange, reds,
browns and yellow.
