Wedding Requirements
In Thailand, there are several requirements for a legal marriage ceremony: Every couple wishing to get married in Thailand must visit their respective Embassy (according to nationality) in Bangkok, and complete the necessary paper work including signing the statutory statements before they can get legally married in Thailand. To lodge these with the Royal Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs and issue a marriage license takes around 3-4 days. Once the license has been collected the couple can get married legally at any registry office in Thailand.
• Original copies of birth certificates and passports
• If you have been married before, you will need a signed affidavit from a registered solicitor proving you are officially divorced.
• If you are under 21 you will need a letter from both parents/legal guardians, and a solicitor stating that you have legal consent to be married.
Couples are advised to check opening hours of their Embassy (including national holidays), to avoid disappointment.

There is often a minimum stay of 4/5 nights required pre-ceremony by hotels/resorts in Thailand. Couples can usually opt for a traditional Thai wedding which includes such customs as a pre-ceremony parade with dancing and drums, the lighting of candles and incense by the bride and groom, prayers by the monks and the blessing of Buddha to the couple.
