South Africa’s Kalahari Desert is part of the larger sand basin that stretches from the Orange River over to Angola, and in the east as far as Zimbabwe. Characterised by vast areas of red sand formed from the erosion of soft stone formations, Kalahari is technically a dry savannah rather than a fully formed desert. As the landscape is in places starkly barren, a visit to any resort in Kalahari is very much recommended to those content to share their experiences with diverse, enchanting wildlife at the expense of any modern leisure facilities or entertainment outlets.
