Guide to Luxury Holidays in Lanzarote

Blessed with year-round sun, numerous 5-star resorts, and a quieter pace of life than its neighbours, Lanzarote is the ideal destination for a relaxing escape. Away from the dreamy coastal towns, you can explore Lanzarote’s wild side. Traverse volcanic terrains, explore atmospheric cave systems, and surf on the wind-battered northern coast. A luxury Lanzarote holiday is a recipe for adventure.

Deserts, mountain ranges, cave systems, and white sand beaches – Lanzarote is a stunning medley of terrains where each coastline offers a different holiday experience. For the iconic beach getaway, head to the south, where the resorts of Puerto del Carmen, Puerto Calero, and Playa Blanca offer golden beaches, fantastic luxury resorts, and plenty of bars and restaurants. Meanwhile, the island capital of Arrecife is the place to be if you’re seeking a lively urban vibe.

This charming city is home to museums, galleries, castles, and a picturesque marina, along with an immaculate stretch of sheltered sandy beach. On Lanzarote’s northern coast, you’ll find lava fields, tranquil whitewashed villages, and windswept beaches framed by dramatic cliffs. This region is also the heartland of famed architect César Manrique. The western coast of Lanzarote is largely dominated by the Timanfaya National Park, an otherworldly volcanic landscape known for its geothermal activity. Here, you’ll encounter crinkling lava plains, red cliffs, and the striking Green Lagoon.

For the ultimate escape, head north to the island of La Graciosa, a haven for hiking, and exceptional beaches that host plenty of watersports.

The weather in Lanzarote remains fairly consistent year-round, with temperatures dipping to the mid-teens in the winter months, and peaking in the late twenties in the height of summer.

The most popular time to visit is June, July and August, however, spring and autumn are also two excellent seasons for a holiday. In the warmest months, sirocco winds from Africa can raise the temperature significantly - so pool access is a must!

At GOV.UK you can check the entry requirements for Spain – you should do this before you book your holiday to Lanzarote. During your stay, carry your passport at all times.

Luxury beach resorts and hotels in Lanzarote are equipped to offer a variety of culinary experiences. You’ll dine at buffet and à la carte restaurants, sampling food inspired by a number of global cuisines, including the traditional fare of the Canary Islands.

In the local restaurants you can try out classic dishes such as papas arrugadas con mojo picón – “wrinkled” potatoes served with a spicy sauce. Lanzarote is also home to numerous vineyards which thrive in the volcanic ash, so make sure you try some of the local wines.
