Overview

The truly inspiring natural landscape of Cape Town is immediately recognisable thanks to its bustling harbour and waterfront, and the beauty of Table Mountain. In the heart of the city, you’ll find chic bars, vaunted restaurants, and boutique shopping, and outside it, the rugged wilderness of the Western Cape. Luxury holidays in Cape Town are packed with exclusive experiences.

A visit into Cape Town’s heart will reveal the trendy appeal that draws cutting-edge creatives from across the globe to this city. Striking art galleries, afro-chic boutique stores and world-class bars and restaurants bring a burst of cultural flavour to this cosmopolitan destination. Locations such as the Twelve Apostles Mountain and Cape Point are areas of interest that you should add to your itinerary, especially if you plan to see as much of Cape Town as possible during your stay. Then take a cable car up to Table Mountain, where you will get panoramic views of the city and the surrounding coast.

Afterwards, why not stop off at a False Bay for a tasty meal overlooking the waters? You might glimpse of passing pod of whales - a dining experience you don't get every day! If you’re hoping to sample some South Africa’s famed wines, you can see how the region's award-winning wine is made in local vineyards and experience some of the most highly regarded fine dining in the world. Wherever or however you choose to kick off your luxury holiday, you'll find the natural charm of Cape town inescapable.

When To Visit

Cape Town is a year-round destination for visitors, with the popular summer seasons falling from mid-December to March. April brings a more balmy climate, softening the light and creating the most sensational sunsets. Winter may arrive during May, but usually tends to fall during June-July.

This season is the best if you’re planning to strike out on safari, or want to do a little whale watching. It’s also ideal if you want to explore the Table Mountain and its national park.

Food & Drink

Cape Town is known for attracting luxury travellers to its fine dining scene. Gourmet menus include fresh local ingredients, statement interiors, magnetic views and premier wine options. Try some local favourites, like Bobotie, a Cape Malay dish of spiced minced beef, and Braai - South African barbecue.

Enjoy contemporary à la carte dining at restaurants overlooking the breathtaking valleys, mountains, and ocean. Try the excellent international fusion cuisine too, where you’ll find strong Italian, Chinese and Indian influences.

Passport & Visas

Be sure to keep hold of your identification at all times. It's a good idea to have a photocopy of your passport just in case. For tourism or business purposes up to 90 days, a visa isn't required. Find more advice at GOV.UK with information on passports, visas and travel.
