Nepal is home to 8 of the world's 10 tallest mountains including Mount Everest, Earth's highest peak. It's not all about the mountains though, and you'll find that the landscape of Nepal is incredibly varied. In the lowlands of the Terai, you will find lush nature parks filled with exotic wildlife like elephants, monkeys and rhinos. Then, in the populated Kathmandu Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, you'll find over 100 historic monuments and important cities like Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur.

In Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, wander the atmospheric temples and shrines adorned with golden statues of Buddha. Enjoy colourful street processions and religious celebrations. Spin prayer wheels and look up to the heavenly mountains that tower above. Stroll vibrant gardens and lotus filled ponds, walk incense infused markets at Thamel and admire local handicrafts, and explore the exquisite interiors of the royal palace museum and the surrounding buildings at Hanuman Dhoka Durbar Square.

In the ancient city of Bhaktapur, you'll find a magical place with some of the most amazing architecture in the country. The streets are lined with ornate pagodas and local artisans sell handmade goods and proudly display their techniques. Journey to Pokhara and you'll be met with stunning lakeside scenery and the gateway to world-famous treks in and around the Annapurna mountain range.

When To Visit

Nepal largely enjoys temperate weather throughout the year. In spring, from March to April, expect highs around 20 degrees Celsius, and good trekking. In the autumn, from September to November, trekking is also popular as you'll find warmer weather with great mountain visibility.

Winter is mostly clear and it rarely snows in Kathmandu, but the views from the city out to the mountains are spectacular. In summer, monsoon rains brings the butterflies, and it's a good time for exploring towns and villages.
