Overview

A luxury holiday to Boston offers so much more than a standard city break. Massachusetts’ capital boasts a huge amount of geographical, historical and cultural diversity, and is a key hub for art, music, dining and shopping. Book into one of Boston’s luxury hotels and spend your holiday exploring every side of this waterside city.

Boston is divided into 23 neighbourhoods, each of which has its own distinct character. For most people, Downtown Boston is the heart of the city, an area of skyscrapers and historic attractions, where the atmosphere is lively and cosmopolitan 24 hours a day.

In neighbouring North End, which sits right on the Boston Harbor, there’s a distinctly European vibe. As the city’s Italian-American centre, this neighbourhood is the place to go for delicious restaurants and delis. South of the main centre, the neighbourhoods of Beacon Hill, Bay Village and Back Bay are home to some of the leafiest streets and most in-demand hotels and restaurants.

Back Bay is a particularly desirable part of town, with its charming Victorian brownstones, designer boutiques and riverside walks. As an added bonus, all three neighbourhoods border the Boston Public Garden, the perfect spot for a Sunday stroll. Sports enthusiasts will likely end up in Fenway/Kenmore, where they can make the most of the historic Fenway Park baseball stadium. Baseball aside, there’s plenty to recommend this neighbourhood, including the excellent museums to the vast green spaces. Head across the Charles River and you can stay in the neighbouring city of Cambridge, which is most famous for being the home of Harvard University.

When To Visit

A trip to Boston shouldn’t be dependent upon the weather. With its historic architecture and fantastic attractions, it is just as appealing in rain as it is in sunshine or snow. If you’re seeking the warmest weather, though, aim to travel in the summer, when temperatures regularly head into the mid-twenties.

In spring and summer, Boston is mild and pleasant, which makes for great sightseeing. From late September onwards you can enjoy turning leaves, while spring sees the opening of the baseball season at Fenway Park and gorgeous floral blooms.

Food & Drink

Boston is a haven for foodies that offers up a variety of dining experiences. The luxury hotels come equipped with restaurants catering to all kinds of tastes – indulge in plates of food inspired by global cuisines within chic surroundings overlooking the city.

As America’s seafood capital you’ll want to try out all the local delicacies – clam chowder is a must. Luxury accommodation in Boston is also famed for its Italian and Chinese cuisine, so you can dine whatever style you fancy.

Passport & Visas

Before you book your holiday to Boston, you should check the entry requirements at GOV.UK – British nationals usually require an ESTA to enter the country. It’s advised that, while overseas, you carry identification with you.
