Overview

Visit the Northern Territory's capital city of Darwin, a true tropical getaway, with a rich indigenous culture, and lots of cosmopolitan attractions. Enjoy Darwin's trendy markets, excellent restaurants, and nearby national parks. Book your next luxury holiday to Darwin, and you'll find there's plenty to keep you entertained, whether you're experiencing the festive nightlife or hanging out with saltwater crocodiles.

Facing the Timor Sea and nearer to Bali than Bondi, Darwin is Australia's only tropical capital city. Known as "Australia's gateway to Asia", you'll find that more than 50 different nationalities call this place home, creating a multicultural atmosphere. Darwin also has a large Aboriginal population, which means you can learn about the extraordinary culture of Australia's indigenous people in the galleries, museums, and neighbouring national parks. You can admire Aboriginal artwork at museums like Aboriginal Fine Arts or Mbantua Art Gallery, or check out the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory which showcases the region’s history.

Afterwards, see the city’s many historical 19th-century buildings like Government House with its Gothic architecture and green gardens or Palmerston Town Hall, a ruined building now used for open air-theatre performances. You’ll also find plenty of festive events like vibrant local markets as well as world-renowned restaurants serving international cuisine. For beach lovers, the man-made City Beach is a fantastic place to cool off after a day of touring. If you’d rather spend time in the great outdoors, there’s some fantastic natural attractions right on the city’s doorstep. Head east to Kakadu National Park, home to 2000 plant species, and to the notorious saltwater crocodiles. Alternatively, Litchfield National Park, south of Darwin, also offers the chance to escape into nature.

When To Visit

Darwin is always warm, so makes for a great year-round holiday destination. In winter temperatures remain below 29°C, but don't stray too far, so the weather is ideal for sunbathing on City Beach or beside your hotel pool. The cooler temperatures and dry weather make for amazing sunsets, as well as vibrant outdoor markets.

In summer, temperatures can reach into the low 30s and there’s a higher chance of rainfall. However, rain showers often pass quickly and there are a host of fantastic indoor activities available in Darwin.

Food & Drink

At your luxury hotel in Darwin, you’ll find menus with a strong emphasis on modern Australian cuisine, with lots of international options available. You'll also find with the city’s seaside location, there’s plenty of locally-caught fresh seafood you can try.

Luxury hotel restaurants create a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere with sweeping views of Mary River National Park or local beaches. The area surrounding Darwin is home to some fantastic vineyards so make sure to pair a local vintage with your exquisite meal.
