When To Visit

Because of how vast it is, the weather in Western Australia varies from north to south. Typically the north has a tropical climate, whilst the south has a Mediterranean-style climate, with slightly cooler temperatures. In the summer, both regions have beach-weather temperatures that hover 30 degrees celsius.

Spring brings temperate days, and short, infrequent showers that liven the landscape with riotous wildflowers. Autumn and winter are slightly cooler, but are ideal for exploring the city and the Outback. This season is also the best for swimming with whale sharks.

Food & Drink

Enjoy fine dining in Perth in swanky downtown restaurants, or hip beach-side cafes, or head into the Outback and dine in the wilds with some 'bush tucker' under a vast sea of stars. Grilled seafood, juicy steaks, local game meat, and international fusion cuisine are the name of the game in Western Australia.

As home to the vaunted Swan Valley and Margaret River wine regions, there are opportunities to really get to know Australian wines in this state. Try the local Cabernet Sauvignons and Chardonnays.

Passport & Visas

You should carry some identification with you at all times and it's a good idea to keep a photocopy of your passport with you. All visitors to Western Australia need a visa and must apply for one before travelling. Visit GOV.UK for more advice on passports, visas and travel.
