Vidago Palace

‘Brimming with history and intrigue’

Vidago Palace is a landmark residence in the town of Vidago in the north of Portugal, around an hour away from the city of Porto. Built in 1910, the hotel showcases a beautifully preserved Belle Epoque façade and its interiors contain high ceilings, stucco artwork and lavish furnishings. A 100-acre park encircles the property and calls home to ancient tree species and serene spring fountains. Created in 1936, The Vidago Palace Golf Course has been redesigned to challenge players even further, while the Thermal Spa offers an oasis of tranquillity with its rejuvenating treatments and luxurious facilities. Historic areas of the palace have been restored into gourmet restaurants and are accompanied by a cosy wine cellar with local products and cheeses.

In Our Opinion

‘Vidago Palace combines opulent interiors and rich history with beautiful scenery and outstanding facilities. A great choice for couples, families and golf enthusiasts alike.'

The Grand Ballroom
Situated on the ground floor, with access to the garden of the main façade, the Grand Ballroom is an elegant restaurant with dramatic chandeliers and damask silk curtains. Refined cuisine uses organic produce, taking inspiration from the traditional dishes of Northern Portugal with a modern twist by chef Rui Paula.
The Winter Garden
Under a dramatic structure made from wrought iron and glass, this venue has the feel of a winter garden conservatory with its fresh colours and contemporary décor. A peaceful breakfast rooms opens out to a terrace overlooking the hill. Breakfast is served daily from 08:00 to 10:30 and until 11:00 on weekends.
The Club House
Originating from 1866, this ancient stone building now features modern interior decoration and hosts a restaurant, bar, shop and locker rooms. The restaurant overlooks the kitchen through a glass wall and opens out to terrace seating.
The Four Seasons Room
Flooded with natural light through all four seasons, this sophisticated venue is designed in the style of an 18th-century literary salon. Capiton velvet armchairs, sofas and bergeres chairs are placed above two lavish wool rugs in shades of burgundy, made to measure for the room.
The Wine Cellar
This cosy cellar hosts a dedicated area to wine tasting, with guests also able to purchase local products such as oils, fruits, vegetables and cheeses. Wines and ports are accompanied by a range of snacks.
Pool Bar
Enjoy a refreshing beverage or a light meal at the laidback pool bar, with a menu that combines traditional flavours with the region’s products of choice – ranging from pasta dishes and salads to hot and cold sandwiches.

The Vidago Palace Golf Course was totally redesigned by Cameron & Powell and transformed into a Par 72, 18-hole course with a length of 6,308 metres.  Main features of the golf course include the elevated tees and greens, strategically placed stone walls and bunkers that demand a sharp eye to read the slopes.

The extension of the golf course from 9 to 18 holes was developed to retain the integrity of the original design, whilst also enhancing the aesthetics and character of the course. The first 9 holes are played in a relatively flat area in the Vidago valley, the last 4 finishing holes are more challenging; built on sloppy land with sweeping views of the natural surroundings, Vidago Palace and the distant villages.
