The brand new luxury lifestyle resort of Ozen by Atmosphere opened its tranquil island shores for business this summer, and has already received rave reviews. We don’t really need much of an excuse to explore this part of the world, so when Ozen opened this July, we jumped at the chance to hold it under a magnifying glass.
Soft white powdery sand? Check. Palm trees? Check. Glowing warm turquoise waters? Check. Thatched roofs? You’ve guessed it… Maadhoo wouldn’t be a Maldivian Island if it didn’t feature the above, but it’s not the standard paradise island features of Ozen by Atmosphere that have caught our attention. After all, this is an area with more stunning tropical island escapes than any other place in the world, so it takes something quite special to peak our interest when a new hotel pops up here. And Ozen by Atmosphere ticks so many boxes, it’s simply impossible to ignore.
From the outside, its appearance leaves you in no doubt that you’re in the Maldives, but when you look a little closer, you start to see subtle but distinctive design features that give Ozen its own style and soul. The mixture of thatched roofs with modern ceiling to floor windows certainly stands out and creates a wonderful contrast of the old and new. The resort features 90 lavish stand-alone villas, including the stylish overwater Wind Villas and beachfront Earth Villas, all reachable within 35 minutes via a luxury speedboat ride from Male Airport.
Ozen has all of the water sports, spa treatments and kids’ facilities that you’d expect of any five-star Maldivian resort, but what really stand out for us are the dining experiences. With five different restaurants, there’s an extraordinary variety of flavours to tease your taste buds. Palms serves a list of international favourites, Peking showcases the best of authentic Chinese cooking, Indoceylon offers a taste of local and South Asian Cuisine, while Joie De Vivre is open for laidback cocktails and pizzas by the pool. But one of the true culinary highlights is M6M. As the first underwater restaurant in the Male Atoll, it invites you to marvel at the world under the sea while you enjoy some exceptionally exotic modern seafood combinations.
If you’ve been to the Maldives before, you’ll know that Ozen by Atmosphere is more than enough of an excuse to return back and see something new. If you haven’t and you’re still here reading this, we only have one question:
