The recently re-opened Shamwari Lodge in South Africa is special for a number of reasons. It's dedication to making the Riverdene Lodge as family friendly as possible is just one of them. They are also very serious about animal conservation and rehabilitation and the area of South Africa's Eastern Cape is completely malaria free.
Shamwari Riverdene Lodge is located on the Shamwari Game Reserve in South Africa and is a family-friendly safari location. It overlooks the Bushman's River and has nine suites, all suitable for families. The main lodge has indoor and outdoor dining, lots of child-friendly activities, and a spa with a river view. The Big 5 inhabit the area and it has the largest concentration of wildlife in the Eastern and South Cape.
Reopened and Refurbished in 2018
The lodge itself has been completely refurbished and reopened on 1st September 2018. Perhaps most exciting of all is that there are some fantastic areas for children to play in, both indoors and out. There is also a new kids' club, game viewing and the area is completely malaria free. It also features a swimming pool with a shallow area, special safari items such as backpacks and safaris just for the little ones in their 'Kids on Safari Club'. Outdoor activities include playgrounds, treetop climbing, swinging and treehouses. There is a superb animal rehabilitation centre where staff give talks and allow children to meet the animals.
Below is the new lobby of the lodge and an example of a room interior which is spacious, modern and completely family friendly.
The new and improved lodge will have a large variety of kids play areas for all ages both in and around the lodge and in the forest amongst the trees!
There is a dedicated wildlife department with ecologists and environmentalists - it has a breeding centre, a rehabilitation centre, and an animal hospital. You'll also find an education centre where your family can learn about the Reserve's efforts to save their beautiful wildlife - it includes an anti-poaching unit. The Kids on Safari Club allows children to see nature and animals at their own pace with specially dedicated members of staff looking after them.
