With 4 nights in each location, there’s plenty of time to experience the wonders of the Cape and the Winelands and enjoy a slow safari with time to relax in the splendid new Last Word Kitara lodge and see the wildlife of Africa in the private reserve.


With a heli flip above Cape Town, and a winery hop on the Franschhoek wine tram, as well as evening dinners on Long Beach, close to golden sands yet just a hop over to Cape Town, you might be tempted to stay longer


On day one you will fly overnight from the UK arriving in Cape Town the next morning and here your adventures begin.

Day 1: Fly to Cape Town overnight


Your first day will include a night flight from the UK arriving in Cape Town in the early hours of the morning.

Day 2: Arrive in Cape Town


On arrival in Cape Town, you will have a private transfer to The Last Word Long Beach hotel, a 5-star boutique hotel located in the picturesque fishing village of Kommetjie which is a 30-minute car ride from the centre of Cape Town. Enjoy your serene sanctuary and relax after your overnight flight, make the most of the eight-kilometre Long Beach and the warm South African hospitality. A delicious seafood dinner is included nightly at the hotel.

Day 3: Helicopter flip over Cape town


Day three is all about discovering your surroundings by air with a helicopter flight over Cape Town with NAC helis. Enjoy the spectacular views over the scenery below and get some fantastic photographs of Table Mountain, Cape Town and the coastlines. Today is also the day that your car hire will be personally delivered to the hotel so you can explore more of Cape Town, perhaps a lunch at the Cape Town waterfront, or a trip to the top of Table Mountain by cable car which is a must-do, especially if the day is clear.

Days 4 – 5: Free time on the Cape


There’s so much to do in and around Cape Town, you may want to stay a few more days. Make sure to drive past the bays and beaches to The Cape of Good Hope and stop to see the African penguin colony. Or head to the city where we can arrange guided tours of the arts scene guided walks in the mountains or even stand up paddleboarding in the harbour. Not forgetting a visit to where Nelson Mandela was held captive at Robben Island.

Day 6: Drive to Winelands

Drive away from the coast and into the lush valleys of South Africa’s famous Cape winelands. You might want to stop at the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens on the way, on the slopes of Table Mountain.


Stay in the heart of everything and in style at The Last Word Franschhoek. Lively and attractive Franschhoek named after the early French Huguenot settlers…hence the wine. It is known as South Africa’s gourmet capital and you will be close to many of the area’s finest restaurants. Your hosts at The Last Word will be able to recommend the hot places to dine and of course taste wine.

Day 7:  Day on the Franschhoek wine tram


Tickets for the fabulous Franschhoek wine tram are included. Choose your route among the many wineries dotted around the town, stopping off at as many as you like for tastings of a whole variety of wines, cheese and cured meats boards, or even a lazy lunch. Notable wineries include Boschendal, Rickety Bridge, Holden-Manz and many more besides.

Days 8 – 9: free days


Two free days to explore the winelands, drive over to Stellenbosch or Paarl, head into the mountains and dedicating time to sitting at a café and watching the world pass by. If you would like something more active we can arrange horse riding, trekking or mountain biking. Stopping off all the time at some of the historic vineyards.

Day 10: Fly to Hoedspruit, transfer to your Safari Lodge


Today is time for a new adventure, it is time to safari! Drive to Cape Town airport where you will fly to Hoedspruit. it’s a short transfer to the safari lodge, entering the reserve look out for your first sightings of African game, it may even be an elephant.


The Last Word Kitara is one of Africa’s newest safari lodges, located in a perfect position on a private reserve on the edge of the massive Kruger National Park. The wildlife viewing here is awesome, exclusive and with regular sightings of Africa’s big five.


Arrive in time for a late lunch or afternoon tea on the lodge deck overlooking the still African bush and the dry river. If lucky you may see some animals looking for food and see some of the great variety of birdlife. You’ll quickly get into the rhythms of safari and out into the reserve on a first game drive, heading out as dusk falls and the animals are on the move.

Days 11 – 13 – on Safari


We’ve included four nights here on safari, there’s often great deals encouraging a longer stay, and safari is such an intrinsic part of African travel, such a unique thing to do, that it deserves time to linger.


There is also no need to rush, spend a bit longer I the luxury of The Last Word Kitara lodge and the timeless still environment. Morning and afternoon game drives are included daily with expert rangers in open jeeps. And you can relax and enjoy South Africa’s renowned dining and hospitality

Day 14: Transfer to Hoedspruit and return flight overnight.


Say a fond farewell to your safari memories for now and fly back over to Hoedspruit where you will then have your flight back to the UK overnight.
