Luxury Rail Joruneys
North America
Aug - Dec

Do Canada in style, in some of North America’s best hotels in enviable Rocky Mountain locations.

Hit the open road on the Icefield Parkway, one of the world’s great drives from Banff to Jasper past glaciers and soaring peaks, and for a thrill go out onto the Glacier Skywalk.

But it’s not all about passing through. Make sure to build in time to slow down and admire the view. Walk, cycle, horse ride, kayak or take a boat out in Canada’s awesome national parks. From Banff National Park to Yoho National Park, Lake Louise to Maligne Lake, it’s awesome panoramas all the way just waiting to be explored.

The adventure continues on rail. Another world great with the Rocky Mountaineer luxury train Journey Through the Clouds. Travel in Gold Leaf class with huge dome windows to admire those never ending views, gourmet Canadian cuisine and drinks included, toast the journey with a glass of something fine and relax into the journey. A team of first rate hosts bring the experience to life.

Arriving by the Pacific in Vancouver’s cosmopolitan harbour, spend four nights here with so much to see and do, and take time to hang out in the bars and restaurants of Gastown, Canadians know how to let loose, it must be all that fresh air.

    The Rimrock Resort Hotel
  • Days 2 - 3
Banff and the Alberta national parks

We’d recommend at least two days in Banff, getting into the Rocky Mountain way of life and enjoying all this mountain town has to offer.

Included is the Banff Gondola cable car up Sulphur mountain. Just revel in awesome views or hit the ridgetop trails. There’s so much else to do as well from a cruise on Lake Minnewanka to an evening wildlife safari.

Banff is a great place to enjoy Canadian hospitality in one of the many excellent bars and restaurants, set along the bustling main street.

    The Rimrock Resort Hotel
  • Day 4
    The Icefield Parkway to Jasper

This is one of the world’s great drives. The Icefield Parkway is a 200 kilometre stretch of open road into the hart of the Rockies, under jagged peaks, white rivers, deep blue lakes and pine forests, all those Canadian cliches in one drive.

Make sure to stop at Lake Louise, that famous picture postcard panorama.

You can stop at the Athabasca Glacier on the way, and if you’ve head for heights do the Glacier Skywalk, nothing between the glass floor and the valley almost 300 metres below. Let us help you plan the day to avoid the crowds.

Continue to Jasper, and stay for a good three nights. You’ve travelled far to get to this magical place, no need to rush things.

    Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge
  • Days 5 - 6
    Jasper and Canada's wilderness

Depending on whether it is excitement or relaxation you seek Jasper, and its lakes can deliver. It’s an excellent base for a spot of kayaking or white water rafting. And there is of course amazing trekking in the Maligne Canyon or the Valley of the Five Lakes.

Or chill out and jump a scenic float trip where you can sit back and admire the view or take the SkyTram up to Whistlers Mountain. There’s just awesome scenery everywhere you look, it’s picture postcard Canadian wilderness.

    Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge
  • Day 7
The Rocky Mountaineer journey to the west.

It’s time for a great rail journey through the peaks on the Rocky Mountaineer. Travelling west towards Kamloops you will be surrounded by the dramatic scenery of the Continental Divide and by the rivers and valleys of the Monashee and Cariboo Mountains which can be fully appreciated from the glass dome windows. Journey in Gold Leaf class, with full panoramic dome windows, luxurious seating with plenty of room, breakfast and lunch be served on board, all drinks included and dedicated hosts to bring the journey to life.

  • Day 8
    Rocky Mountaineer to Vancouver

Back onboard the Rocky Mountaineer continues west to the Pacific Ocean. The mountain scenery gives way to the forests, river canyons and the green of the Fraser River Valley. Look out for the rushing waters at Hell’s Gate. Again, you will be served breakfast and lunch on board from a menu that is locally inspired and includes Fraser River Salmon and Okanagan wines. Hosts are dedicated to making your onboard experience as memorable as the scenery.

On arrival in Vancouver, transfer to your city centre hotel. After tie in the wilderness, the city is a change of pace, although Vancouver is not the most frenetic of cities. It’s a cool cultural mantling pot with that enviable harbour setting.

    Loden Hotel
  • Days 9 - 11
Vancouver with a whale watching trip

Why not spend three full days in Vancouver. Travellers who spend less usually regret it.

It’s a city based around the water, with boat trips, kayaking and paddle boarding all great ways to experience the harbour.

This tour includes a half day whale-watching cruise, which is recommended on your first full day, or if you prefer enjoy an evening dinner cruise.

We love Vancouver’s historic Gastown, where you will find an array of cool bars and restaurants, and if you have the need for retail head to Robson Street for Canadian souvenirs.

With that extra time you can also head out of the city to the spectacular Capilano Suspension bridge and just get into the Vancouver way of life.

    Loden Hotel
  • Days 12 - 13

After a free morning, transfer to the airport for an overnight return flight.
