A short flight to Sem Reap, and a first glimpse of the temples of Angkor, one of Asia’s ancient wonders. Pass the remarkable gate of Angkor Thom, with imposing stone elephants and a row of demons guarding the entrance, it feels like heading into a lost world. Explore the Bayon temple, with amazing intricate carvings etched into the 12th Century stone. Head to Siem Reap to relax at your hotel and in this traveller’s city.

Hop on a tuk-tuk with an expert guide, back into the jungles to Angkor Wat. Explore, Ta Phrom, made infamous in the west in the Tomb Raiders films, where the jungle has reclaimed the thick temple walls. Today is yours to design with your guide. Stay away from crowds and see some of the more surprising discoveries of this huge ancient city. After a siesta back at the hotel, visit the main temple of Angkor Wat in the afternoon, early evening. See the impressive towers and intricate designs in as the afternoon light cast a golden glow.
This morning fly to Vietnam, arriving into the sultry southern capital Ho Chi Minh city and a free day. This ever-changing city is full of the sounds, sights and smells of South East Asia, not forgetting some of the best Vietnamese food fresh from the farms, it’s an easy place to stroll and head into a café or restaurant for cold drinks, delicious plates and people watching.

On a full day tour of the city, see the ancient and modern sides of the city, some of the culture of Vietnam and the famous symbols of Saigon’s turbulent 20th Century. Visit Cholon Chinese district, Thien Hau Pagoda and the exotic Ben Thanh Market. Visit the War Remnants or History Museum, and the former Presidential Palace, preserved from the dramatic events of the 70s. Continue through the colonial district to see reminders of the days of French Rule.

Leave the busy city behind today, heading out to the hazy and timeless Mekong Delta. Here, life is lived on the river, and the scenes are of traditional wooden craft, floating markets, islands with villages on stilts and the tasty and colourful produce of the fertile delta. Take a lunch of the freshest tropical flavours in a small restaurant. Your guide will take you past the floating markets, travelling by small craft and road, passing orchards and villages between green fields and blue channels before heading back to the capital.

Fly to Danang and transfer over the Hai van pass, along the South China Sea coastline to beautiful Hoi An, for a walking tour. This was one of Asia’s major ports in the 17th century, attracting traders from Portugal, Japan, China and elsewhere whose legacy has been a photogenic blend of colourful houses, sloping temples and winding roads. It is now one of those towns where people gather in local bars, family restaurants, haggle for Vietnamese crafts and laze by the river. It’s a place worth spending a bit longer.
Drive up the coast to Hue, a former capital of Vietnam. Tour the tombs and mausoleums of the last emperors and explore the Forbidden Purple City and Imperial Citadel. Later head to the Thien Mu Pagoda on the banks of the Perfume River.
Depart this morning to Halong Bay and board your cruise vessel for a day on the waters of the Bay of the Descending Dragon. One of Asia’s natural wonders, jade coloured island dot the wide expanse of the bay. The ship will stop for explorations of an islet, village or activity or just send the day relaxing and taking in the scenery. Anchor overnight and spend the night in the serene bay.

Enjoy a lazy morning on the water after a soft sunrise over Halong. Return to Hanoi, the distinctive northern gateway with a photogenic old town and French influences. Explore the old town and Hoan Kiem Lake on a walking tour and experience the culture of old Vietnam.
See more of the ancient and modern side of Hanoi, including the Temple of Literature, a thousand-year old university surrounded by former royal gardens, and One Pillar Pagoda. See the house of Ho Chi Minh, father of modern Vietnam and the exterior of his mausoleum. The West Lake is an oasis of calm in the city, a place to recharge before some free time or some souvenir shopping.
