Depart the UK on day on an overnight flight to Johannesburg. Arriving on day 2, you will connect with a domestic flight to Hoedspruit in the northern part of the Kruger region. You’ll immediately see the rolling lands and the bush of South Africa on your transfer from the airport to the lodge. Look for giraffe looking through the trees, your first sighting of elephants or antelope, the first few hours in the bush are a thrill which never lets up. With three nights on safari you will see a wide variety of wildlife.

Wake early for a game drive at dawn, the best time to see animals as they hunt and move, and a beautiful time to be in the bush. After breakfast head to the airport for a short flight to Johannesburg. Due to Mauritius flight times, a night in Joburg is usually needed. Take some time to relax in a luxury hotel or take an optional private tour to Soweto and the Apartheid museum, which is an excellent insight into South African history and culture.
Transfer to the airport and fly over the Indian Ocean to Mauritius. There’s beaches, green peaks, an Africa and Asian fusion culture, plenty of activities and plenty of time to relax, kick back and enjoy island life and a luxury resort for 5 nights.

The River Lodge is in the Thornybush Private Nature Reserve next to Kruger National Park, where regular views of the Big Five are an everyday occurrence in the open savannah. It is along the banks of the Timbavati River with views across the Drakenberg Mountains. There are four suites with plunge pools at the lodge, ensuring a personalised service, as well as a lounge, dining area and a swimming pool overlooking the water hole nearby.

The accommodation, Mauritian houses, are located amongst tropical gardens, cascading pools and secluded creeks. Water sports include windsurfing, kayaking, stand-up paddle, water skiing and there is a dive centre; land sports include a 9-hole mini-golf course, tennis, volley ball and archery. There is also a gym and spa with treatment cabins amongst the ancient banyan tree. Dining at three restaurants is offered and the bar opens onto a small amphitheatre where there are live performances in the evening.
