Collect a hire car from the depot in downtown Jasper and being one of the best drives anywhere in the world and you head down the stunning Icefields Parkway.  Following the valley of the Athabasca River, you will have huge mountains on both sides plus the river and numerous lakes to stop off for driving breaks with amazing backgrounds.  A must stop though is the Columbia Icefield.  Take the opportunity to see a glacier up close and personal or even walk and take the Icefield Explorer 4x4 ride over the ice.    For the brave, there is also the Glacier Skywalk – a glass viewing platform suspend 280m over the valley!  Continue south along this stunning highway, arriving at Lake Louise.

    Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise
  • Day 7
    Lake Louise

There is a reason that Lake Louise and the hotel located at its north-eastern end are one of the most photographed locations on earth.  This stunning glacier fed lake, is surrounded on three side by the enormous peaks of the Rocky Mountains, giving the area a quality that can be hard to describe and found in few other places.  The snow stays on the high peaks’ year-round, while the water is usually a spectacular blue in colour.  Our recommendation for today is just spend time walking around the lake and taking in this amazing location.

  • Days 8 - 9
    Lake Louise to the UK

    Drive distance: 203KM/126 miles

A final day in Canada, waking up again in Lake Louise you may want to spend a little more time wandering around the lake before heading down the Trans-Canada Highway. A straight drive to the airport would take around two hours, and with a late afternoon departures usually to the UK you have time to take it slowly and stop off in Banff if you like or maybe even head into the big city (by comparison) of Calgary before returning your car at the airport and taking an overnight flight back to the UK.
