Travel from the UK to Papeete. The most direct route to this gem in the South Pacific is via LA, with direct connections from Heathrow with Air New Zealand and then Air Tahiti Nui into the international airport on Tahiti. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel with amazing views over the ocean to neighbouring island Moorea.
Not many people spend more than a few hours on Tahiti itself, used mostly as a transit hub onto flights out to the other islands or getting onto a cruise. Be different and see what the largest Island of Tahiti’s 118 islands has to offer. The lagoon around the island is a safe place to enjoy the warm Pacific Ocean, or marvel at stunning black sand beaches. Venture inland for a view of verdant green mountains and valleys, with many waterfalls all over. Head down to the lower part of the Island, called Tahiti Iti, for some secluded coves or head to the capital Papeete and pick up some black pearls.
Moorea can easily be seen from Tahiti, sitting just 12 miles apart. You can choose to fly over, taking about 15 minutes but an easier option is to take the fast catamaran ferries. Pick up from your hotel and transfer to the ferry dock in downtown Papeete, a smooth crossing takes about half an hour. At the other side, meet your transfer again for a short drive to your hotel.
Moorea is a truly stunning island, mountainous and lush green in the middle, and ringed with an almost unbroken coral lagoon. On the north coast, there are two natural bays that cut into the island offering amazing views and shelter from the Ocean. Get to know the island on a tour that will show you the highlights, especially the view from the Belvedere where you can see both Cooks and Opunohu Bays at the same time. Then spend time in the lagoon, teeming with life from colourful coral to many species of fish. A highlight is snorkelling in the shallow crystal-clear waters with stingrays and blacktip reef sharks.
Take a flight from Moorea to Bora Bora. Flight time is about 30-40 minutes and is a stunning journey over the Pacific Ocean, dotted with tropical islands. Upon arrival at Bora Bora, meet representatives from your hotel in paradise and take a private speedboat across the lagoon to your home for the next four nights.
Spend three full days in Bora Bora, the Pearl of the Pacific Ocean. Romanticised and dreamed about so much, Bora Bora lives up to all your expectations and more. See the multitude of blues that make up the lagoon as you come in to land and marvel at all the possible views of Mount Otemanu, the striking peak at the heart of the main island. From you accommodation on the outer Moutus, relax on white sand beaches with that amazing view or snorkel in the crystal clear water, right off the terrace of an overwater villa. With plenty to do or not do, Bora Bora is the perfect final stop on this holiday of a lifetime.
Spend a final morning and lunchtime in the waters of Bora Bora before checking out from the hotel and beginning the journey home. A speedboat will take you back to the airport on Motu Mute where you will take an internal flight back to Papeete. From here an overnight service will have you back in LA – a great stop over option to break up the flight home – before travelling back to the UK, overnight again, from LA direct.
