    UK to Delhi

    After touching down in Delhi, you will be met and guided to your hotel. This buzzing capital is the perfect blend of modern and new India. You can either take some time to relax or go on an adventure, the choice is yours. An optional rickshaw ride takes you through the narrow lanes and alleys of Chandi Chowk, stopping off to try some delicious treats as you go.

  • Day 3
    Delhi to Shimla

    After a short train journey to Kalka, board the Toy Train for an ascent into the Himalayan foothills. Your destination is the charming hill station of Shimla. Formerly the summer capital of British India, and now the capital of Himachal Pradesh, Shimla is a land of green pastures and snow-capped peaks. Its cool hills and colonial-era buildings give it an atmosphere like found nowhere else.

  • Day 4
    Shimla

    Head out for a morning stroll along Mall Road, only moments from your hotel. Traffic is banned from here making adventuring by foot a delight. Discover the maze-like markets and soak up the laidback atmosphere. Shops are filled with hand-made crafts which make the perfect souvenir. See the Tara Devi Temple, over 250 years old, and visit the Vice Regal Lodge which occupies a whole hill by itself.

  • Day 5
    Shimla to Pragpur

    Continue northwest to the sleepy village of Pragpur. It’s like time has stood still here. Cobbled streets are lined with ancient houses and fascinating temples. This is the only place in India where the entire village has been deemed a ‘heritage village’. The contrast between somewhere like here and Delhi is so large – forget hectic streets, you’ll be free to wander at your own gentle pace.

  • Day 6
    Pragpur to Dharamshala

    Delve deeper into the Himalayan foothills at Dharamshala, watching as the terrain changes from fertile river beds to rocky and hilly ground. The town is surrounded by snow-capped mountains and the Kangra Valley. With the rest of the day at leisure, there’s plenty of time to admire the views.

  • Day 7
    Dharamshala

    Tibet’s spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, moved here in 1959 along with thousands of refugees. What followed was the transformation into a major Buddhist centre. Take some time to explore McLeod Ganj, the suburb where the Dalai Lama calls home, then visit the War Memorial.

    Dharamshala to Amritsar

    Continue northeast to Amritsar in the state of Punjab. This city was founded in 1577 by the fourth Sikh guru, Guru Ram Das, and is famous for its Golden Temple.

  • Day 9
    Amritsar

    Walk through the old city and the winding bazaars. Popular items on sale include leather slippers, scarves, shawls and bangles. Then it’s time to see the main attraction – the Golden Temple. This is the mecca of the Sikhs but all religions are welcome, hence the openings from all four sides. Find a little spot for yourself and just take in the atmosphere. Then there’s one last visit to the Wagha border between India and Pakistan.

    Amritsar to Delhi

    Head back to Delhi by train, with one last chance for some shopping in the bazaars.
