Fly to Hanoi, Vietnam’s historic capital. On arrival you will be met for a private guided transfer to your hotel, it’s an easy city to explore on foot.
On a private excursion of the city, visit Thang Long Imperial Citadel and underground war bunker, stroll through the old quarter to the thousand year old Temple of Literature, along streets which have changed little through the decades, and visit a family in a typical ‘tube house’.
If you like, you can experience an optional Hanoi night street food tour, where your guide will reveal the nightlife of Hanoi, you can have a few beers and live like a local.
A day at leisure to explore on your own and watch the world go by, or take an optional tour. A trip into the countryside will reveal timeless scenery, or take a walking tour around the local markets.
It’s around 2 hours drive to the coast, the famous ‘Bay of the Descending Dragon’ an evocative name perfectly describing the scenery. Board the Ginger cruise, and set sail on Lan Ha Bay. This area is quieter than central Halong with smaller, well-appointed boats plying the waters. Do one of the shore excursions or just lay back and take it all in.

Experience the still morning amid the wilderness of the bay, cruising past islets as breakfast is served. Later, return to Hanoi and fly to Ho Chi Minh City. It’s a change of scene as the traditions and green scenery of the north turns to the exotic, tropical hustle and bustle of Saigon and the delta.
A guided tour to see the particular landmarks of Saigon, the French influenced Post Office, some daily life in the old town streets and the art deco architecture. In later afternoon, early evening take a sunset cruise by speedboat on the Saigon river. Here the old traditions of life on the river contract with the skyscrapers of modern Vietnam. Then for a quirky touch, head into the Saigon night in a Citroen 2CV, try some delicious street food and find your Saigon.
The Cu Chi tunnels are the now infamous network of tunnels built by the Viet Cong, a fascinating glimpse into the guerrilla warfare of the time. See the tunnels, go as far in as you are comfortable, and hear stories of how the Vietnam War affected the whole country on a morning tour.
The afternoon is at leisure, and there are of course more war relics to see in the city, reminders of the turbulent 20th century.
Transfer to the airport for a short flight to Phu Quoc Island. Relax on the wide beaches of the central coast, enjoy spas, first class cuisine and the exotic tropical surroundings.
