    To Hanoi

    Fly to Hanoi, with connections via your local airport to Vietnam’s capital. On arrival you’ll be met by your private guide for a transfer to your centrally located hotel. Resort of the day free to explore at your own pace for a first taste of the unique atmosphere of Vietnam.

  • Day 2
    Hanoi

    On a private excursion, your local guide will show you the historic sights of Hanoi and introduce your to interesting aspects of daily life. Visit the thousand year old Temple of Literature, one of Asia’s first universities. Continue to the Ho Chi Minh complex to see the mausoleum, his old house on stilts and gardens dedicated to the father of the nation. The half day tour concludes with a walk through the old quarter and the market where your guide can introduce you to some local characters, or a visit to the illuminating Vietnam Women’s Museum.

    For a memorable experience to add on as an optional tour, a family home dinner is a great way to try traditional Vietnamese cuisine with a friendly welcome.

  • Day 3
    Hanoi

    See a different side to the city today. With you guide explore the area around the old railway, built during French rule and a vital hub to everyday life. Locals cook in front of their houses and play chess in the street. Visit the home of an 80-year-old artist, hear his stories of Vietnam past and see traditional woodblock paintings. A ten-minute train ride will take you across the Red River and views of the outskirts before you return to the city centre.

  • Day 4
    To Halong Bay

    Morning departure to Halong Bay and board an overnight Paradise Cruise to explore the magical scenery of what is known as the Bay of the Descending Dragon. Lunch will be served as you cruise gently through the bay studded with verdant islands and tiny floating villages. Excursions to the islands and beauty spots are included and plenty of time to relax on board and take it all in. Overnight amid the beauty of the bay and the night skies with dinner.

    To Hoi An

    Early risers can witness the serenity of sunrise over the bay and take breakfast while you travel around the glassy waters. Disembark the cruise this morning for the journey back to Hanoi and a short flight to Hoi An in central Vietnam, where you will be met for the transfer to your hotel.

    Hoi An’s perfectly preserved old town, set around the river and an ancient trading port, has seen it flourish as the perfect place to experience the laid back friendliness of Vietnamese culture, explore traffic free streets and enjoy café lifestyle with fragrant Vietnamese flavours.

  • Day 6
    Hoi An with the locals

    Hoi An is one of those places in the world where creative and interesting things happen alongside an atmosphere of times past. Take a walking tour with a conservation expert, who will show you around the merchants houses and describe the work done by Unesco to preserve the delicate colourful 15th century buildings. Continue to the Japanese Covered Bridge, Communal Hall and a private photo galley. After a meander along the old streets, take lunch in a local café before a free afternoon to unwind.

    Foodies, as well as people who like getting stuck into something different, would no doubt enjoy a Hoi An cooking class and market tour.

  • Day 7
    Hoi An

    See a different side of Vietnam today, an impression of a more traditional side,away from the hustle and bustle town. Head with you guide on the old bridge to Hoi an islet for a welcome to the islet on the river. See the organic farming cooperative which is developing sustainable and traditional methods, be welcomed into the village houses and enjoy a refreshing su da coffee. Join in gardening activities or relax in a shady gazebo. After a rustic homemade lunch, take a boat on the river back to town, as the evening sun cast a light on the buildings for great photos in that magic hour.

  • Day 8
    To Hue

    Travel along the coast over the Ha Van pass to the city of Hue, once the Imperial capital of the Nguyen Empire, dripping with history and romance. After checking into your central hotel, take a guided tour to the Imperial citadel and city wall, and a cyclo ride to Tinh Tam lake, filled with lotus flowers. Continue into the surrounding countryside by the Perfume River and visit Emperor Khai Dinh’s tomb, then back to the city via Dong Ba market, full of scents and colours of every day life.

  • Day 9
    To Ho Chi Minh City

    Transfer to the airport and fly to Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), you will be taken to your hotel to check in then relax and explore at your own pace this captivating, fast-moving city.

    A great introduction to the city is an optional street eats tour, which can be added as a complimentary added excursion.

  • Day 10
    Saigon Landmarks and Hidden Charms

    On a half day tour discover the old and new sights of the city and your guide will reveal hidden corners. Start at the General Post Office, designed by Gustav Eiffel, then if available see Mr Duong, professional love letter writer. Walk or drive to the streets with French colonial apartments, now funky boutiques taken over by young Vietnamese and take a coffee with local residents. See the 1920s Banque de L’Indochine building and its fusion architecture, and head back to your hotel. The afternoon is your free to watch the world go by or explore Saigon’s excellent museums, many reflecting the turbulent 20th century.

  • Day 11
    Mekong Delta

    Depart the modern city and head to the steamy south, the shimmering waterways of the Mekong Delta, the ‘rice bowl of Vietnam’. On arriving at the delta of the huge river, a boat trip will take you around the floating workshops and traders. On land, stroll through fertile lands and visit the house of a fruit farmer then take a sampan ride around small canals where life is loved on the river. After lunch you can try kayaking or cycle around the villages, visiting the local historian Uncle Sau Kanh, before the trip back to the city.

Hear about the B-52 bombs dropped on their neighbourhood and how they persevered during the challenging years that followed. Then sit down for dinner. Unlike Hanoi’s tourist restaurants, the food served here explodes with flavour thanks to the traditional techniques used to prepare the dishes. After the meal, the host will play a traditional one-stringed instrument that he has made, a memorable end to this unique Hanoi experience.

Hoi An Cooking Class

This half day Hoi An cooking class at the Red Bridge Cooking School is the perfect introduction to Vietnamese cuisine. After buying ingredients at Hoi An’s morning market, take a boat along the Thu Bon River to the school for a hands-on cooking class with a local chef.The two-hour course starts with a demonstration from the chefs, showing the proper cooking techniques and introducing the ingredients. Then, at a personal cooking station, prepare a selection of Vietnamese dishes under the watchful eye of the Red Bridge team. Once ready, sit down and feast on a delicious meal of authentic local cuisine. After filling up on these home-cooked delights, return to Hoi An for the afternoon.

Ho Chi Minh Evening Street Eats

Start with a stroll through a residential area where locals gather after work for dinner. Sit alongside the locals and order some of their savoury treats. Continue on foot to a small alleyway and observe the daily life at sunset -the dining, the drinking and socialising. Grab a stool and dive into a few plates of delicious cooking, then carry on to discover the area’s contrasting architectural styles.Next is a short walk to Mrs. Dung’s Home Restaurant serving banh xeo, or Vietnamese pancakes and fresh spring rolls. Having sampled the savoury side of the city, get ready to cross a city intersection  -an adventure in itself. Find a typical Vietnamese café to end the evening and indulge in a sweet treat. Take some time to recap the tour, enjoy a drink and listen to Vietnamese music.
