Depart on your overnight flight to Durban. You will be met on arrival for the transfer to the Oyster Box hotel, for 2 nights relaxation in style on the Indian Ocean shore.
A day at leisure by the ocean, around the inviting Oyster Box pool, enjoy excellent and great value cuisine in the Ocean Terrace or Grill Room. Explore the Umhlanga waterfront area around the hotel or hop into Durban and see the harbour.
Pick up your car hire and head out on open roads into the green rolling valleys of KwaZulu Natal. You’ll soon arrive in the Midlands, an area of farmland and villages where you can stop for coffee or lunch. Then drive on wide roads into the hills, recognisable from the movie Zulu, to the heart of the Drakensberg and the historic mountain resort of Cathedral Peak Hotel, named after the towering peak under where it sits.

Today you will be taken to the site of the battlefields of the Anglo-Zulu war with an expert guide, who will bring to life the stories and background of the battles in this remarkable setting. Spend the morning at Isandwlana, where the British Army felt the force of the Zulu nation on the open plains. In the late afternoon visit Rorke’s Drift, featured in the famous film where more Victoria Crosses were won than any other battle in history, in a place where you can almost feel the history.

Depart for the drive down the coast back towards Durban. Arrive at the airport in time for your overnight return flight. You might want to think about possible extensions - maybe add on a short flight to Cape Town for a few days or see the amazing Victoria Falls.
