Combine Dubai with desert and beach adventures, or flop and drop relaxation.
A stay in Dubai could leave you relaxed and rejuvenated, from beach clubs and spa treatments and ready for adventure?
A stay in Dubai could leave you exhausted from theme and water park adventures and city exploration and ready for relaxation?
Whatever Dubai leaves you feeling, combine it with a trip to Ras Al-Khaimah, Abu Dhabi, Zighy Bay or Al-Wathba.
Ras Al Khaimah
Just under 1hr North-East of Dubai, by car, is Ras Al Khaimah, the most northern of the Emirates. Its landscape is a combination of mountains, deserts, beaches and mangroves so holiday opportunities are abound but the Hajar Mountains are an essential visit.
Looking for Adventure then book a flight on The Jabal Jais Flight – the longest zipline in the world. It is 1680m above sea level and fliers reach speeds of 150kmh. Adrenaline fuelled visitors to the Hajar mountains can also enjoy trekking, climbing, canyoning and mountain biking.
If you want to see the mountains for their beauty, Viewing Deck Park is a favourite with Destinology. The park has seven viewing decks, complete with binoculars – you can watch the zipliners with a coffee/tea in hand, but most importantly you get to enjoy the stunning vistas of the Mountains and valleys 1250m above sea level. The park is an advocate for sustainable tourism and is designed using local materials and powered by solar energy – what is not to love?
The Ritz-Carlton, Hilton and Rixos have wonderful resorts located on the beach in Ras Al Khaimah.
1 hr South-West of Dubai, by car, is Abu Dhabi, the capital sits on an island just off the mainland. This is a culture lover, family fun, flop and drop destination – Abu Dhabi is everything to everyone.
For culture, the Sheik Zayed Grand Mosque is Arabian splendour. It is the largest mosque in the United Arab Emirates with 82 domes, over 1,000 columns and many reflective pools. Looking for more than the only Louvre, outside of France, occupies a waterside location in the Cultural District of Saadiyat Island, the galleries display masterpieces on loan from some of the most world-renowned French museums.
For fun and for speed Saadiyat Island is also home to Ferrari World and the fastest roller coaster and the highest roller coaster loop in the world. Buckle up for speeds of 250kmph. Water wildness can be found at Yas Waterworld where shoots, rides and tunnels await and Wadi Adventure the first man-made white-water rafting course in the world.
Six Senses Zighy Bay is 75 miles, 2hrs by car, North-East of Dubai on the Musandam Peninsula in the Sultanate of Oman.
This resort is a place to feel the sand between your toes, see the sunset from the mountains and taste the delicacies of the region. Zighy Bay feels remote, an escape from life, but with every comfort for your immersion into happiness. The Six Senses Spa will leave you relaxed and rejuvenated with a combination of holistic massage treatments and spiritual therapies. Sense on The Edge, situated on the mountainside overlooking the breath-taking landscape, offers dining Journeys and Expeditions – set tasting menus with wine pairings, not a decision to be made except booking the table. Want to relax further then opt for the Sunset Cruise along the Musandam Fjords with a glass of something fizzy, heaven.
Adventurers do not dismay! As well as being profoundly relaxing, Zighy Bay can be a place for excitement. Guests at Six Senses Zighy Bay have the option to make an entrance by paragliding, over the natural landscape, into the resort! An experience not available at any of Destinology’s other hotels! Once you have ‘touched down’ you can try mountain biking, rock climbing or scuba diving.
Situated 1 hr 30 mins South-West of Dubai and 45 mins East of Abu Dhabi, Al Wathbah Desert Resort & Spa is encircled by the desert dunes and landscape, away from the crowds.
Kick-back from the world at the Talise Spa which has a Hammam, saunas, hot tubs, Jacuzzi, steam room, crystal salt room and a Cry treatment room with hot and cold plunge pools – this is a rejuvenation oasis in the desert!
Not quite ready to totally switch off? The location of Al Wathba, away from the lights of the city means that a horse ride out into the sands at sunrise, sunset or at night means the colours and lights are a dazzling experience. At the nearby wetlands walkers will find over 4,000 pink flamingos and over 250 migratory species of bird – photographers will love the hides and Bedouin guides will introduce the nature and history of the area.
