Vietnam is home to two Six Senses resorts; Con Dao and Ninh Van Bay. Two diverse destinations with their own appeal and charm.
The Six Senses philosophy is to select ‘remote yet accessible destinations in areas of outstanding natural beauty’. With Con Dao and Ninh Van Bay, they have surpassed all expectations. One is immersed in a marine and natural reserve which has been protected for decades, whilst the other is set on a dramatic bay to the backdrop of towering mountains.
Six Senses Con Dao
Around a hundred kilometres off mainland Vietnam’s southern coast, the Con Dao islands are the type of paradise you can only dream of being washed ashore to. Scattered with beautiful beaches, scenic bays and forests rich in wildlife. Although Six Senses Con Dao is the first five star resort in the archipelago islands, it is more like a Vietnamese fishing village in design and ambience. A relaxed vibe flows throughout and encourages you to focus on the simple things that bring so much happiness; the feel of sand beneath your toes, the gentle ocean breeze in the air or the sight of the sun rising up over the horizon. Let this feeling of ease and contentment wash over you as you ascend into your villa’s private infinity pool, all the while taking in panoramic views of the azure ocean.
As roughly 80% of the archipelago is made up of a marine and natural reserve, you will benefit from fantastic opportunities to discover new wildlife. On land, the surrounding mangroves and forests make for ideal hiking terrain, and present the prospect of spotting the rare monkeys and black squirrels that inhabit the island. Or why not head down to the sea, with its inviting waters scattered with untouched coral and teeming with colourful reef fish and giant barracuda. The reserve is also home to some of Vietnam’s most important sea-turtle nesting grounds, as well as rare marine mammals such as the dugong. If feeling less adventurous, fear not, simply stroll down to the private beach and bask in scenic views of the surrounding islands, or visit the spa where your worries will float away in one of three outdoor treatment salas. Foodies will be in their element in any of the island’s three different restaurants, along with the special destination and in-villa dining experiences.
Six Senses Ninh Van Bay
Overlooking the East Vietnam Sea, with intriguing rock formations along the beach and into the hillside, Six Senses Ninh Van Bay has the feeling of a remote island. With towering mountains above and white sand beach below, you can’t help but feel intimately at one with nature. Villas dot the picturesque landscape and can be found by the beachfront, on rocky formations or on the hilltop. At your villa you will be greeted by your dedicated butler, or ‘Guest Experience Manager’, for whom no task is too large on the way to making your stay as special as possible. As you enter your hideaway, discover an in-villa wine cellar and hand-crafted wooden bathtub, before making your way out to the private pool where you will be mesmerised by the views below.
The privacy and personal space afforded in these villas is something that’s hard to come by, so we wouldn’t blame you for spending most of your days just soaking up the blissful seclusion. Although when you do decide to venture out, you won’t be short of options, from hiking to the top of Heo Mountain to see the monkeys, to taking a lazy boat trip down the Cai River towards the mineral-rich hot springs, stopping for a refreshing young coconut from one of the neighbouring islands on your way. Even simple activities like yoga classes, when enjoyed on the beautiful beachfront, or cooking classes, where you learn how to make some of the tastiest Vietnamese dishes, will seem a world away from what you have experienced before. Speaking of other-worldly experiences, a trip to the spa is a must; accessed through a pebble-like pathway set above water, here you will encounter a sanctuary for all the senses.
