With half-term approaching in October, we have five-holiday destination ideas that your whole family will enjoy. From the theme parks in Orlando, to the water parks of Dubai we have some great family holidays destinations for you this October!

1. Tenerife

Tenerife is a fantastic destination for the whole family, with a very reasonable flight time of just over 4 hours and temperatures in the mid-70s. For explorer families, you can visit Mount Teide by shuttle bus, which at 12,198ft is Spain’s highest peak. You can then take the cable car up to the snow-capped mountains at its summit and enjoy the stunning views. This is the world’s third largest volcano and about three times as high as our very own Snowden.

Tenerife not only has beautiful beaches, but a less known wilderness where you can enjoy mountain biking and hiking through woodland and forests, as well as banana plantations. Tenerife is a very child-friendly island with a large variety of child-friendly amenities across the island. The very best thing of all though, is the Canarian weather! A top tip is that car hire is particularly cheap on the island, with deals from just €20 a day. Brilliant for ferrying the whole family around the island.

2. Orlando, Florida

We couldn't talk about great places to visit during half-term for all the family without mentioning Orlando! With temperatures in the 29 Celsius and seven hours of sunshine per day in October, it's the perfect time to enjoy the parks and attractions. It is also one of the less rainy months of the year. This time of the year there are fewer people so queues for rides and attractions are dramatically reduced. It is also Halloween time so there will be lots of extra special spooky goings on around the parks if you are brave enough!

You can have a browse through the hotels and resorts we have to offer in the Orlando area and book your family holiday this October!

3. Limassol and Paphos, Cyprus

Cyprus happens to have the longest summer season in the med, with 8 hours of sunshine a day even at the end of October. Many of the hotels and resorts are super family friendly and have full-on entertainment programs for children as well as full facilities such as kids clubs, babysitting services and children's playgrounds and swimming pools. The island is great for shops, restaurants, natural and historical sites and many hotels also feature a spa for mum and dad to relax in too!

4. Dubai

Dubai is fast becoming THE family destination (sorry Orlando) with hot summer sunshine in October of highs of 90 degrees and sunshine for around ten hours per day, this is a fantastic choice for a summer sunshine family holiday. If it does get too warm there are plenty of indoor activities on offer such as arcades, children's play areas, indoor SEGA park at Dubai mall and a theme park and edutainment centre called KidZania. For outdoor fun there is the Aquaadventure Atlantis Dubai Waterpark based at the Atlantis Hotel which is set among waterfalls in a 42-acre water park. There are rapids, rivers and a speed slide as well as a private beach. For a little more education visit Children's city just outside of Dubai Creek Park and caters for ages 2 -15. This is an educational city where children can investigate, play, explore and learn about the world they live in.

5. Portugal

We would recommend Portugal for families who like exploring and adventures rather than sunbathing by the pool or beach. Temperatures in October are in the low 70s so still pleasant although there can be a chance of rain here and there. There are a variety of activities to experience including Dolphin Driven which operates out of Albufeira which offers 2 different types of trip. One is a half-day kayaking through the caves and the other is a 12-person RIB boat exploring hidden beaches and caves. There is also Parque Aventura in the Algarve, which is cooler and fresher than the beach areas. Here you can swing from the high ropes and zip around the forest. For budding Wimbledon champions, there is Valo do Lobo Tennis Academy which has 14 courts and offers individual coaching or group sessions. For parents, there is a sauna, steam room and swimming pool.
