MuseumsQuartier
The MuseumsQuartier is completely free to enter and encompasses 60 different cultural institutions, as well as numerous restaurants, shops, and cafés. Developed on the site of the former imperial stables, this cultural hub is notable for its mix of historic and contemporary buildings. Highlights include the Leopold Museum, MUMOK, and the kid-centric ZOOM Kindermuseum.
Schönbrunn Palace
Venture out of the centre of Vienna to visit the imperial summer residence, Schönbrunn, which was constructed at the end of the 17th century but continued to grow and develop in the following century. This lavish palace boasts unbelievable interiors and is surrounded by vast grounds housing a zoo, hilltop pavilion, and botanical garden.
The Hofburg
Situated just off the Ringstrasse in Vienna’s historic centre, the Hofburg is the former seat of the Habsburg dynasty. Famously expanded over many centuries it is home to various imperial residences, as well as the Spanish Riding School. This vast palace complex houses the Sisi Museum, dedicated to the life of Empress Elisabeth, and the spectacular Silver Collection.
Naschmarkt
Vienna's most popular market dates back to the 16th century. Here you’ll find 120 different stands selling fresh produce and serving up cuisine from around the globe. On Saturdays you can participate in a beloved local ritual by visiting Naschmarkt for the weekly flea market. Wander through the stands browsing the mismatched china, antique jewellery, and vintage clothes.
Vienna State Opera
The Vienna State Opera is housed in a spectacular Neo-Renaissance building dating to the 1860s. Damaged during the Second World War, the building was lovingly restored to its former glory, and today is classed as one of the finest classical music venues in the world. Set aside an evening to enjoy a classic opera or ballet in this spectacular place.
