White Tower of Thessaloniki

After the Ottoman's captured Thessaloniki this waterfront tower was reconstructed to fortify the city's harbour, where it also served as a notorious prison and scene of mass executions, gaining the name the Red Tower. After Thessloniki was liberated in 1912 it's exterior was whitewashed and it now serves as a symbol of the city's transformation and a reminder of its chaotic past.
