Luxury Holidays in Barbados: An Insider's Guide

There’s a reason Barbados is one of the Caribbean’s most loved islands — it combines barefoot beach days, delicious dining, warm Bajan hospitality and a growing collection of luxury stays. For anyone considering luxury holidays in Barbados, there’s plenty to explore beyond the famous stretches of powder-soft sand, from charming beachfront restaurants and hidden local gems to special experiences on land and sea.

Our Destination Manager for the Caribbean, Georgina, recently returned from the island after combining a trade show visit with some personal time to see Barbados through fresh eyes. From new hotel openings and standout stays to her favourite restaurants and must-do experiences, she shares her insider guide to rediscovering this Caribbean favourite.

The Island

You've been to Barbados several times now. What felt different on this visit?  

Since my last visit to Barbados, the island has welcomed some exciting new hotel openings and extensive renovations, so it was wonderful to reconnect with our hotel partners and see these developments first hand. Having a longer stay than on previous visits also gave me the time to discover more of the island at my own pace, so I found new favourite restaurants and tried some really special experiences, including a Cool Runnings cruise and swimming with turtles. 

If someone hasn't been to Barbados for five or ten years, what new hotels, restaurants or experiences should be on their radar? / Which areas of the island feel like they're having a bit of a moment right now?  

It’s such an exciting time to look for luxury holidays in Barbados. There’s been a real wave of investment so there are new hotel openings planned for 2026 and even more luxury developments in the pipeline for 2027 and beyond, as well as extensive renovations taking place across the island.

The West Coast is particularly exciting at the moment with new additions like the boutique Blue Monkey Hotel & Beach Club, the adults-only Royalton Vessence Barbados, and lots of refurbishments going on at Marriott Barbados properties. 

Beyond the hotels, I also saw how Barbados’ culinary scene is continuing to go from strength to strength. There really is something for everyone, whether it’s award-winning fine dining restaurants to stylish, relaxed beachfront spots where you can enjoy fresh local flavours with your toes in the sand. 

Did you discover anywhere that made you think, "Why didn't I find this sooner?"  

We took a local bus towards Bridgetown to La Cabane, a charming and rustic beachfront spot on Batts Rock Beach. It had a really relaxed atmosphere, served local dishes and played chilled DJ sets, and I thought it was the perfect place to settle in for a long lunch and enjoy the more relaxed side of Barbados. 

The Hotels 

You visited plenty of Barbados hotels during the trade show. Which ones genuinely stood out and why?  

New for 2027 is Pendry Residences Barbados. Although the property won’t open until the end of 2027, it’s already creating a lot of excitement and will be a fantastic option for luxury holidays in Barbados. Watch this space! 

I’d also love to mention Cobblers Cove. It’s a beautiful boutique hotel that’s ideal for couples looking for a peaceful and romantic escape. What really stood out to me was the incredible attention to detail — from the beautiful décor and attentive poolside service to thoughtful touches like daily afternoon tea and complimentary motorised water sports. Everything came together to create such a relaxed, intimate and charming atmosphere; it’s the kind of place where you can properly switch off and unwind. 

Was there one hotel that exceeded your expectations?  

Little Good Harbour was a real highlight for me. Located just north of Speightstown, it offers a more traditional option for luxury holidays in Barbados — a little rustic but completely charming and a real hidden gem. 

Guests staying on Bed & Breakfast or Half Board can enjoy all meals at the famous Fish Pot restaurant – sister restaurant to the hotel – and it’s just the most perfect setting for relaxed breakfasts, leisurely lunches and sunset dining.

If you had to check into one luxury hotel in Barbados tomorrow for a week, where would it be?  

I would choose to stay in a four-bedroom villa at Apes Hill with my family. The villas come with the most incredible views, a private pool and really everything you need for a comfortable stay – it's that true home-from-home experience people look for in luxury holidays in Barbados.

While Apes Hill is maybe most famous for its impressive 18-hole golf course, there’s so much more to enjoy beyond the fairways. It’s got everything from tennis to padel, in-villa spa treatments, scenic walks, yoga and pilates. Guests can also enjoy the Apes Hill beach club in Speightstown, which is a really lovely addition. 

The Table

Which restaurant in Barbados served your standout meal of the trip?  

We absolutely loved The Fish Pot, it’s a beautiful dining spot with stunning ocean views and great menu. My favourite dish was a simple but delicious fresh grilled catch of the day. It showcases the flavours and quality that Barbados does so well. 

Any hidden gems that tourists often overlook?  

The Caboose is a great local spot in Speightstown with delicious fish cutters and rum punch!  

Did you try anything new in Barbados that you'd recommend to customers? 

The Sea Shed may not be a new addition to Barbados, but it was a first for me – and it certainly lived up to the hype. I’d highly recommend booking a table for Sunday evening to enjoy dinner and sundowners, when the lively atmosphere is enhanced by live music and an impressive fire show. It’s a great way to spend an evening. 

The Experiences 

Beyond the beaches, what should people make time for?  

Luxury holidays in Barbados are nothing without exploring the diverse culinary offering! The island has the most amazing food scene, so many different colours and flavours and combinations to western cuisine. It’s a great way to experience the destination. 

Did you experience anything you'd now recommend to clients booking luxury holidays in Barbados?  

I’d definitely recommend a catamaran cruise. We sailed on the Cool Runnings catamaran, which was great fun and included three snorkelling spots, swimming with turtles, lunch onboard and - of course – plenty of rum punch flowing throughout the day. Seeing Barbados from the water is now a top recommendation from me, you see a whole different side to the island. 

Was getting around the island easy? Any practical tips for first-time visitors?  

Getting around Barbados is very easy, as there are regular local buses operating along the coast, readily available local taxis and Uber all providing convenient ways to explore. You can also hire a car if you’d like the freedom to discover more of the island at your own pace, which is easy enough as they drive on the same side of the road! 

Are there any misconceptions about Barbados that this trip helped change?  

I visited Barbados during the quieter June–July period. While this is considered the island's low season, the weather was still fantastic with plenty of sunshine and warm temperatures. It’s a great time for luxury holidays in Barbados, especially for anyone looking for a more relaxed experience.
