Guide to Luxury Holidays in British Colombia Mountains

The province of British Columbia, sandwiched between the Coast Mountains to the west and the magnificent Rockies, is vast and unspoiled. Home to ten major mountain ranges, its giant peaks dominate the skyline. It is an area of outstanding natural beauty, and boasts a terrain of rainforests, alpine meadows, canyons and lakes - just the place to unwind, relax and get back to nature. British Columbia boasts some of the world's finest ski and winter sports resorts, and when the snow melts it's the perfect territory for pursuits including hiking, mountain-biking, fly-fishing and kayaking. While this area of Canada known for its wilderness, it is surprisingly easy to navigate - by train, helicopter, seaplane and 4x4 vehicle. The journey is all part of the experience and the major towns and cities of the province are accessible, even from some of its more remote outposts. The province has earned a reputation as the destination of choice for visitors looking to combine the trappings of five-star luxury with the chance to escape urban living and experience a different way of life. With championship golf courses, fine dining restaurants, spas, wineries and boutique shopping all within easy reach, British Columbia delivers on all counts.

British Columbia Mountains attracts visitors year-round. For many, it's all about winter sports and, more particularly, snow quality. During the winter months, from November to March, this can be guaranteed as temperatures here frequently dip below -10°C, and are often colder on high, exposed terrain. It's a good idea to check local weather conditions before setting out. In contrast, temperatures can surpass 30°C during the summer months and are pleasantly warm in spring and autumn, making conditions ideal for outdoor activities and enjoying the spectacular scenery.
In addition to a valid passport, if you travel to Canada by air you will need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA). Exemptions apply, so it's worth checking before your flight. Visas are not required for short holiday travel. Visit GOV.UK for more information on eTA and other travel requirements.
Visitors can enjoy an exciting culinary experience in resorts, hotels and restaurants across the province. Despite its mountainous terrain, British Columbia is a renowned food and drink region, with artisan producers, farmers markets, craft breweries and over 250 wineries,. While the ingredients are local, the flavours are distinctly global. Dining becomes a special occasion when it includes transport by helicopter or seaplane to a remote island, mountaintop or glacier, where the quality of the cuisine is matched by the restaurant's unique location and marvellous views.
