Luxury Norway Holidays

Overview

Norway is a land of exquisite natural beauty. In the north, auroras shimmer above the quaint villages dotted across the remote, untouched wilderness. In the east, rolling mountains offer hiking and skiing opportunities. The south features an idyllic sandy coastline while the west brings spectacular fjords and waterfalls. A luxury holiday in Norway provides a truly unique experience.

A Scandinavian country, Norway's charms stretch throughout the nation with each region providing something completely different. Along the southern coast, the capital city of Oslo blends a modern skyline with a quaint pastel-coloured Old Town filled with historic buildings. Oslo is home to museums, where you can learn about the country's Viking past and galleries featuring world-famous artworks. As you walk through the city, you’ll realise that you are never far from the Norwegian wilderness nor beautiful beaches with soft sands.

On the western coast, perched between tree-lined mountains and rippling fjords is Bergen Norway's second-largest city. These fjords include Sognefjord, known as the ‘King of the Fjords’ for being the longest and deepest in Norway. Unearth all the secrets the land has to offer by hiking through the area. Back in Bergen, explore museums, churches and the world's largest gingerbread town. Be sure to visit the neighbourhoods of Bryggen with its brightly painted iconic houses situated around a snug port.

South of Bergen, Stavanger is known for its mix of fjords and long white sandy beaches. Take a trip to the old part of town where you'll be greeted with romantic wooden houses, cobblestoned streets and the beautiful 12th-century Stavanger Cathedral. It’s a pretty town to spend a few days relaxing before heading off into Norway’s wilderness.

When To Visit

When you visit Norway will depend on what you're looking to experience. For summer weather, visit between June and August as this is when temperatures reach around 18 degrees Celsius and there are plenty of daylight hours.

From April to May, wildflowers blossom across the countryside and the landscape bursts with colour. From October to March temperatures drop but despite the cold, it's a great time to hit Norway's ski slopes or witness the magical northern lights. In December, Norway's cities come alive with Christmas markets.

Food & Drink

At your luxury hotel, start your morning off right with a healthy buffet breakfast. Dinner menus often feature freshly caught seafood such as king crabs, oysters, whole baked fish and lobsters. You'll also find that menus include French and international dishes.

Enjoy local specialities made by skilled chefs who use Scandinavian flavours to create dishes with a visual flair. Try dishes such as Rakfisk (fermented freshwater trout), reindeer meat, or pinnekjøtt lamb or mutton ribs). You can also try Norway’s famous honey wine or excellent craft beers.

Passport & Visas

As with any holiday, it's a good idea to carry some identification with you at all times. British citizens don't need a visa to enter Norway. Visit GOV.UK for more advice on passports, visas and travel.
