“As Explora I is an all-suite ship we were so excited to see our room. We had an Ocean Terrace Suite, and it was just beautiful. Having cruised before, one thing that struck us was just how peaceful the cabin was — bliss! Design-wise, every consideration had been given to ensure an elegant and luxurious stay.

“The decor was luxurious and welcoming, with a huge bed that was a dream to sleep on, possibly the biggest TV at sea, a Dyson hairdryer, and a beautifully equipped balcony with a day bed and table for two.

“A bottle of champagne was waiting for us, along with delicious treats. The mini-bar was fully stocked, personalised according to the choices that we selected prior to boarding.”

Culinary Delights: Dining on Board

“The food was simply exceptional. Explora I has several restaurants, of which Sakura and Marble & Co. were our favourites.

“In Sakura, the soft shell crab tempura, crispy langoustine roll, Lobster Pad Thai, and 72-hour slow-cooked short rib beef Panang blew our minds. The hosts Katrina, Luca, and Don provided memorable service.

“At Marble & Co., Mary-Rose brightened every meal, going over and beyond to make sure we had a wonderful time. The crushed fingerling potatoes with Normandy butter and Oscietra caviar, lobster brioche, and fillet steak with truffle demi-glacé were superb. The fried Brussels sprouts with ricotta cream and roasted shallots were divine (and good for you; one of your five a day!).

“Drinks on Explora Journeys are magical — the hosts ensured you never had an empty glass! They happily personalised the comprehensive cocktails and drinks on offer according to your preferences.

“The coffees, cookies, and cakes in Crème Café always provided a tasty treat, and the Marketplace Emporium was great for morning breakfasts. The sushi bar there had an excellent choice!”

Life on Board: Relaxation and Entertainment

“Explora I has four pools; our favourite was the forward adults-only Helios pool and the infinity whirlpools, where we enjoyed many a sunset sail-away. Seating on decks was plentiful, with lots of sun loungers, daybeds, and cabanas to choose from. Each came with a huge fluffy towel and was a great spot to relax and enjoy the sea views.

“The Ocean Spa was a beautiful, calming space. I loved the warm stone beds, which were great to soothe muscles after a day of exploring.

“Entertainment-wise, we really enjoyed the Explora Lounge for pre-dinner drinks and the Journeys Lounge for post-dinner tipples, such as a decaf espresso martini. We enjoyed some brilliant live music acts, including pianist Francesco Parrino and the Candlelight Broadway show. Adam, the Entertainment Manager, was a brilliant and personable host.

“What we loved most about the cruise was the personal service — the crew would remember your name, your preferences, and just take the time to have a chat. Our suite host Saleh always made us smile and took such good care of us.

“WiFi on board made keeping in contact with our children easy, but other than that, we completely switched off and immersed ourselves in the experience.

“The gym was fantastic and well-equipped — my husband really enjoyed working out with sea views! We also played basketball, which was good fun.”

Destination Highlights: Ports of Call

“Our 7-night journey from Athens to Venice included five port calls at both iconic and hidden destinations. Disembarking at port calls was always smooth and well-organised. Our first experience of using a tender service was effortless — we never had to queue, and the service was swift and comfortable.

“During our journey, we did two destination experiences: Olympia and Alberobello. On both occasions, the tour guides were very knowledgeable — we could have spent all day there!

“For our stops at Kefalonia, Samos, and Zadar, we were able to wander off the ship and enjoy exploring the local areas. In picturesque Fiskardo, Kefalonia, the streets were lined with Bougainvillea, sailboats bobbed alongside glamorous yachts in the harbour — it was just beautiful, with not a cloud in the sky.

“In Samos, we jumped into a local taxi and visited Kokkari, a postcard-perfect fishing village full of bright flowers and character, with a colourful waterfront, golden beaches, and local tavernas where we shared the most delicious Loukoumades.”
