Guide to Luxury Holidays in Calgary

Welcome to “Cowtown”, Alberta’s largest city, and home to over one million Canucks. This thriving city was ranked the fourth most-liveable city in the world by The Economist due to its welcoming charm, excellent nightlife, and surrounding natural beauty. You’ll discover that despite a host of modern comforts, Calgary has retained its sweet countryside hospitality, meaning you always feel very welcome here. Within the city itself, you’ll find an exciting mix of celebrated restaurants, trendy cocktail bars, and independent coffee shops serving single-origin artisan brews. You can shop to your heart’s content at The Core Shopping Centre, Stephen Avenue or Eau Claire Market for upmarket options, or visit downtown attractions like Calgary Zoo, Chinatown, or Calgary Tower for entertainment. There are also a number of fantastic museums including Glenbow Museum, Art Gallery of Calgary, and The Military Museum. Just outside the city centre is Canada’s oldest national park – Banff. Established in 1885, this park encompasses stunning glacial lakes like Lake Louise, as well as dramatic peaks, rushing alpine rivers, and vast stretches of forest. You can hike up towering mountains, kayak to hidden coves, or take to the ski trails during the winter months. No matter what the season, Calgary has you covered.

Calgary has four distinct seasons with each offering something completely unique. Summertime brings temperatures of 24°C and plenty of sunshine, perfect for hiking, canoeing, or spending time outside in nearby national parks. Autumn is also a pretty time of year as the forest foliage becomes yellow, orange and red. In winter, temperatures drop to -13°C and you'll see snow. However, this is one of the most popular periods to visit thanks to the world-class skiing mountains, tranquil hot springs, and frozen lakes, perfect for iceskating.
British and EU citizens don’t normally require a visa to visit Canada. For more information on visa requirements and general travel advice visit GOV.UK.
