Luxury China Holidays

Overview

China’s vast size means it has tons to offer. You’ll find cosmopolitan cities as well as ancient historical sites. There’s also plenty of natural beauty. You can admire Chinese rivers and lakes as they flow between vertical karst rock formations. On a luxury holiday to China, you can sample the nation's best highlights as well as delicious world-renowned cuisine.

Start in Beijing, China’s capital, where you can visit modern skyscrapers like the unique CMG Headquarters or ancient complexes like the Temple of Heaven and the grand Forbidden City. Beijing boasts a wealth of historical attractions like Tiananmen Square, the National Museum of China, and even the UNESCO world heritage site – the Great Wall of China. Afterwards, admire local and international artistic masterpieces in the 789 Art Zone or satisfy your shopping addiction at Beijing SKP, formerly known as Shin Kong Place.

Next travel south to Shanghai. Located on China’s east coast, Shanghai is China’s largest city. It's a global financial hub boasting a skyline dominated by futuristic skyscrapers. Shanghai also has a wealth of important cultural sites like City God Temple of Shanghai or Jade Buddha Temple. You can relax in a traditional Chinese garden, Yu Garden or learn about ancient Chinese art at the Shanghai Museum.

Head east to Xi’an in central China, one of the country’s oldest cities with a history dating back over 3000 years. As the first of China's four great ancient capitals, Xi’an is home to fortifications, ancient relics, towering pagodas and the impressive life-size Terracotta Army. You’ll discover that Xi’an blends its extensive history with modern skyscrapers that lay below the temple-adorned Mount Li.

When To Visit

As China is such a big country, it has a very diverse climate that varies dramatically throughout each region. Generally, spring sees little rainfall and pleasant temperatures around 20 degrees Celsius and temperatures then gradually become warmer.

During the rainy season between April and May, rainfall is typically sudden and short-lived. In autumn, the weather cools slightly, and rain showers are infrequent. As such, both autumn and spring are common seasons for luxury travellers to visit China.

Food & Drink

At your luxury hotel in China, you'll find dishes prepared by award-winning chefs. Enjoy traditional Chinese cuisine like Peking roast duck, dumplings, or spring rolls. Chinese meals are often prepared using seasonal and local produce.

Open kitchens and interactive cooking stations are common at Chinese luxury hotels so you can admire chef’s skills and learn how to make traditional Chinese dishes. As you become more adept at Chinese cooking, you’ll realise that China is known for balanced flavours and delicately arranged plates.

Passport & Visas

As with any holiday, it's a good idea to carry some identification with you. You will need a visa to enter China, but not Hong Kong or Macao. Visit GOV.UK for more advice on passports, visas and travel.
