Funchal Cable Car
Take to the skies in a modern cable car, beginning at Almirante Reis and ending in Funchal’s upper suburb of Monte. The 15-minute ride comes with stunning views of the ocean and surrounding landscape. Make your way back down in a unique form of transport - the basket toboggan. A fun experience for the entire family.
Cabo Girão
If you don't like heights, look away now. Open since 2012, the skywalk sits on a cliff on Madeira's southern coast. It measures a breathtaking 580 metres high. The platform hangs off the edge of the cliff, and the glass floor tiles give a clear view of the ocean far below you.
New Year's Eve Fireworks in Funchal
Celebrate the end of another year in style. Madeira is a fabulous place to welcome the new year as the island throws an exciting festival. The highlight of these celebrations is when the skies of Funchal is filled with colourful fireworks. The display tends to last around ten minutes and is a memorable experience for all.
Monte Palace Tropical Gardens
As one of the world's most beautiful botanical gardens, a visit to Monte Palace Tropical Gardens is a must. You can't miss the entrance to this surreal location as you arrive at the cable car terminal in Monte. Decorating the slopes of the former Monte Palace Hotel, these gardens are home to an exotic range of local and international plants.
Levada Walks
Taking inspiration from the Moors, during the 1500s numerous channels were carved through Madeira to transport water to the drier southeast region. Today, these channels serve as popular routes known as the Levada Walks. One of the best routes is the Levada das 25 Fontes which takes you past the stunning 100-metre Risco waterfall.
