Fanueil Hall Marketplace
The historic Fanueil Hall is a true Boston institution, and the first port of call for any visitors seeking the city’s best shopping. Home to 70 retailers, this huge marketplace sprawls across three buildings and several shopping promenades. Here you’ll find everything from food stalls and kiosks selling handmade jewellery, to flashy designer boutiques.
Museum of Fine Arts
This excellent art museum is located in the neighbourhood of Fenway/Kenmore and houses almost 500,000 works. Collections include Musical Instruments, Contemporary Art, Art of the Americas, and Art of the Ancient World, where you’ll find pieces dating back to 6,500 BC. After your visit you can wander over to the neighbouring James P. Kelleher Rose Garden for a scenic stroll.
Harvard University
If you’re seeking a day trip out of Boston, make for the city of Cambridge where you can explore the beautiful, historic campus of Harvard University. Take a guided tour, or simply wander through the iconic Harvard Yard at your own pace. In neighbouring Harvard Square, you can browse the shops and hang out at the student-friendly bars.
Walk the Freedom Trail
This 2.5-mile walking route deserves its status as one of the city’s best activities. Starting on Boston Common, the trail winds its way north through Downtown Boston and across the water to Charlestown. Along the way, you’ll visit a number of key historic sites, including the Granary Burying Ground, Paul Revere House, the USS Constitution and the Bunker Hill Monument.
Fenway Park
Boston is a big baseball city, and if you’re a total newbie the iconic Fenway Park is the best place to get an introduction to this all-American sport. Visit during baseball season and you can bag some tickets to a game to experience the action first-hand. Fenway is also a great place to catch live music.
